Solve by completing the square and separate with comma:
x^2 + 3x - 40 = 0
-----
x^2 + 3x + (3/2)^2 = 40+(3/2)^2
(x+(3/2))^2 = 169/4
(x+3/2) = 13/2 or x+(3/2) = -13/2
---------------------
x = 5 or x = -8
