Question 287765: The period T (time in seconds for one complete cycle) of a simple pendulum is related to the length L (in feet) of the pendulum by the formula 8T^2 =rr^2L. If a child is on a swing with a 10-foot chain, then how long does it take to complete one cycle of the swing?

This is so confusing, can you explain it to me? I appreciate it.

Answer by richwmiller(17219)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Your rr should be pi which equals 3.14
pi is the relationship between the circumference and the radius of a circle.
So it should read
8T^2=(3.14)^2*L
plug in 10 for L
and solve for T
8T^2=(3.14)^2*10
T=3.51063 seconds or almost 4 seconds
