To solve for R means to isolate R.
Simply divide both sides of the equation by T.
D = RT
D/T = R

D = RT, which looks like the standard distance equation, where
D = Distance travelled
R = Rate of speed
T = Time
.
D = RT
.
To find R, divide both sides by T
.
D/T = RT/T = R*(T/T) = R*1 = R
.
D/T = R
R = D/T
.
Done
