Question 283170: Using the addition method solve the given system of equations for x and y.
x/3 - y/2 = -5/6
and
x/5 - y/3 = -3/5

x/3-y/2=-5/6 multiply this equation by 1/3
x/5-y/3=-3/5 multiply this equation by -1/2 & and add.
x/9-y/6=-5/18
-x/10+y/6=3/10 add
-------------------
x/9-x/10=-5/18+3/10
(10x-9x)/10*9=(-5*10+3*18)/18*10
x/90=(-50+54)/180
x/90=4/180
180x=4*90
180x=360
x=360/180
x=2 ans.
2/3-y/2=-5/6
-y/2=-5/6-2/3
-y/2=(-5-2*2)/6
-y/2=(-5-4)/6
-y/2=-9/6
-6y=-9*2
-6y=-18
y=-18/-6
y=3 ans.
Proof:
2/5-3/3=-3/5
2/5-5/5=-3/5
-3/5=-3/5
