SOLUTION: solve for x and y.
1.8x + 1.2y = 4
9x + 6y = 3
i tried to solve this by multiplying the first equation by -5
-5(1.8x + 1.2y) = 4(-5)
-9x - 6y = -20
subtract the 2nd

Question 282798: solve for x and y.
1.8x + 1.2y = 4
9x + 6y = 3
i tried to solve this by multiplying the first equation by -5
-5(1.8x + 1.2y) = 4(-5)
-9x - 6y = -20
subtract the 2nd equation from the 1st
-9x - 6y = -20
9x + 6y = 3
I would say that there is no solution to this problem. Is this correct ?
Answer by richwmiller(17219) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
1.8x + 1.2y = 4
9x + 6y = 3
multiply first by -5
-9x-6y=-20
9x+6y=3
add both equations
0=-17
There are no solutions.
They are parallel
-a/b=slope
-1.8/1.2=-3/2
-9/6=-3/2
The slopes are the same
