Books and magazines. At Gwen’s garage sale, all books were one price, and all magazines were another price. Harriet bought four books and three magazines for $1.45, and June bought two books and five magazines for $1.25. What was the price of a book and what was the price of a magazine.
(I need to see how you came up with your answer please)
let the cost of the books be x
And the cost of the magazoines be y
Harriet------------ 4x+3y= 1.45-------- 1
JUne-----------------2x+5y=1.25----------2
Multiply eq 2 by 2
4x+10y=2.5 -----------------3
subtract eq. 3 from eq 1
-7y= 1.45-2.5
-7y= -1.05
y= -1.05/-7
y= 0.15 or 15 cents
2x+5y= 1.25
2x+5*0.15 = 1.25
2x= 1.25-0.75
2x= 0.5
x=0.5/2
x= 0.25 or 25 cents
