to solve this all you do is cross multiply. i wrote the problem like this so it is easier to see. it is still 2 over m = m over 5m+12.
to cross multiply you multiply the numbers that are diagonal.
1. multiply 2 x 5m+12, that will give you 2(5m+12)
2. multiply m x m, that will give you m^2
3. set your two answers equal to each other. 10m + 24 = m^2
4. solve for m by getting everything on one side and then factor.
5. m^2-10m-24 = 0.
6. this factors as (m-12)(m+2)=0
7. set each factor equal to zero m-12 = 0 m+2 = 0
add 12 to both sides subtract 2 from both sides
8. the solution is m =12,-2 you can also check this by plugging these numbers in for m
