Because 3/4 is being multipliedy by y, you can't subtract 3/4, you have to divide (or multiply by the inverse) If you multiply both sides by the inverse (4/3) you'll end up with:
Turning 1+4/5 into an improper fraction of 9/5 makes it easier to multiply.
