The difference between two numbers is 16. Three times the larger number is seven times the smaller. What are the numbers?
What we've tried: a-b=16 3a=7b That's about all I've done...I'm so confused I don't know where to begin.

Then you've done the hard part... most people have trouble translating from english to math, but you're doing fine so far. Just need to solve the system of equations.
