Question 24945: At a proffessional basketball game,the turstile count showed that 17,406 people paid admission. The total cash received for tickets was $133,372. Without actually counting the ticket stubs,find out how many paid for reserved seats ($10.00 each)and how many paid in general admission($6.00)
Answer by Paul(988)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Reserved seats=x
General adimission = y

x+y=17406
y=17406-x
x = $10
y = $6
Total cash = 133372

10x+6y=133372 (subsitute for y)
10x+6(17406-x)=133372
10x+104436-6x=133372 ---> simplify
4x=28936 --> divide both sides by 4
x = 7234
y=17406-7234
y=10172

Hence about 7234 reserved tickets were sold and about 10172 general tickets were sold.
