Answer by richwmiller(17219) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
which equation do you want solved?
or do you mean solve these equations? the system of equations?
since you don't say how to solve them we will go for elimination.
multiply the first by 3
x+3y=-13
3x+9y=-39
3x+y=1
subtract the last from the new one
8y=-40
divide by 8
y=-5
substitute -5 in last one
3x+y=1
3x-5=1
add five to both sides
3x=6
divide both sides by 3
x=2
check by plugging in this one
x+3y=-13
2+3(-5)=-13
2-15=-13
-13=-13
ok
