Answer by richwmiller(17219)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
first combine like elements on each side
2g+14+5g=8g-3+8
2g+5g on the left can be combined to 7g
-3+8 on the right can be combined to 5
so now we have
7g+14=8g+5
what we do to one side of the equation we must to the the other side.
so if we subtract 5 from the right side we have to subtract 5 from the left side.
so now we have
7g+9=8g
now we can subtract 7g from both sides
and we get 9=1g or 9=g

You can add or subtract the same value from both sides of an equation without changing the solutions so you can subtract 8g from both sides giving:
2g+14+5g-8g=8g-3+8-8g =
2g+14+5g-8g=8g-8g-3+8 =
2g+14+5g-8g=-3+8=5
This essentially removes the variable from the right side of the equation.
Subtracting 14 from both sides results in:
2g+14+5g-8g-14 = 5-14
Simplify to:
2g+5g-8g = -9
-g = -9
g = 9
