Question 242071: how do you solve equations with the variable on each side?
Answer by nyc_function(2741) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Do you 3x + 20 = 5x - 6?
Do you mean something like that?
Simply combine like terms and then simplify.
Put the x terms with the x terms and the constants with the constants and then simplify. Don't forget to CHANGE THE SIGNS of the x terms and constants when crossing the equal sign.
Understand?
Take my example: Solve for x.
The words "Solve for x" means to find the value of x.
3x + 20 = 5x - 6
3x - 5x = -20 - 6
-2x = -26
x = -26/-2
x = 13
