Question 23966: Systems of Equations
X+Y=16
2Y=-2X+2
please and thanks

Answer by rapaljer(4671)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
For the second equation, add _2x to each side to get the equations in standard form:

x+y= 16
2x + 2y = 2

Multiply both sides of the first equation by -2 in order to eliminate the x coefficients, which by the way will also eliminate the y coefficients:
-2(x+y)= -2*16
2x + 2y = *2

-2x-2y = -32
2+2y= 2
0=-30

NO SOLUTION! Therefore the lines are parallel!!
