Question 237075: My son is in honors geometry, and has always struggled with a particular type of algebra problem which has surfaced again now in geometry. In this case, he is determining the values of x and y in order to tell the degree of angles in parallellograms.
How do we find the values of x and y in the following?
x - y = 45
x + y = 85

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Hello,
You can determine the value of x & y by elimination.
Here's how you do it. Add the first equation from the second one. You see the y cancels out leaving:
2x = 130 Solve for x gives you:
x = 65 Now we can plug 65 into either equation and we find the value of y:
y = 20
