SOLUTION: 0.4(x+0.7)=0.6(x-4.2) is the problem. I apply the distributive property and then get 0.4x+0.28=0.6x-2.52. I don't understand where to go from here to solve for x.

Answer by stanbon(75887) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
0.4x+0.28=0.6x-2.52
------------------------
Multiply thru by 100 to get rid of all those pesky decimals:
40x + 28 = 60x - 252
Subtract 40x from both sides to get:
28 = 20x - 252
Add 252 to both sides to get:
20x = 280
Divide both sides by 20 to get:
x = 14
