Question 187276: x+y=6
x+3y=10

Answer by uday1435(57)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let us number these equations
x+y=6 Eqn(1)
x+3y=10 Eqn(2)
Subtracting Eqn(1) from Eqn(2) we get
2y = 4 Dividing both sides by 2 we get 2y/2 = 4/2 , so y = 2
Plugging in the value of y in Eqn(1) we get x + 2 = 6
Subtracting 2 from both sides we have x = 4
So the answer is x = 4 and y = 2
