Question 181097: What is the formula to the substitution method?
y=2x
2x+y= -12

Answer by Mathtut(3670)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
y=2x.........eq 1
2x+y= -12....eq 2
:
again there is no formula. In substitution you are take on equation and isolated either variable and then placing the value of that varible into the other equation. In our case, eq 1 , y is already isolated and its value is 2x. We plug that into all occurences of y in eq 2
:
2x+(2x)=-12
:
4x=-12
:

:
now take x's found value and plug it back into either equation. in this instance eq 1 is much easier to work with
:
y=2(-3)
:

:
solution(-3,-6)
