Question 161149: A car radiator has a capacity of 16 quarts and is filled with a 25% antifreeze solution. How much must be drained off and replaced with pure antifreeze to obtain a 40% antifreeze solution?
Answer by nerdybill(7384) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
.
Let x = amount drained off and replaced with pure antifreeze
.
.25(16-x) + x = .40(16)
4 - .25x + x = 6.4
4 + .75x = 6.4
.75x = 2.4
x = 3.2 quarts
