Question 16113: 5(x-6)+6=7(x+2)-8
My problem with this one is just when i think i have it figured out i realize i took the wrong term and moved it to the wrong side! How do i know what term to move to what side???
On this problem i took away the parenthasis then i combined like terms next i would do what??

Answer by askmemath(368) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
5(x-6)+6=7(x+2)-8
It would have helped had you shown your working.
I assume you know how to simplify so I'll just proceede from there.
5X-30 +6 = 7X+14-8
5X-36 = 7X-6
Now we want all the X terms to come to 1 side and the rest of the terms go to the other side.
So we subtract 5x-6 on both sides
5X-36 -( 5x-6)= 7X-6-( 5x-6)
5x-36 - 5x +6 = 7x-6 - 5x+6
-30 = 2x
Dividing by 2 throughout
X = -15
