Question 159049: Please help me solve this problem. My math book has the answer in it but I don't understand how to get that answer. I'm suppose to solve for x. If you divide both sides by c+d you'll end up with y/c+d=2x. The right answer according to the book is y/c+d=x. If that is all you're suppose to do why is there only one x when there is clearly 2 on the right side? I appreciate your help. Thank you
Answer by scott8148(6628)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
the factors of cx+dx are x and c+d

using the distributive rule __ x*(c+d)=cx+dx

so y=x(c+d) __ dividing by (c+d) __ y/(c+d)=x
