Answer by stanbon(75887)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
8x-y=17
6x+y=11
-----------------
Add the two equation and solve for "x":
14x = 28
x = 2
---------------
Substitute that into 6x + y = 11
6*2 + y = 11
y = -1
----------------------------
Solution : x = 2, y = -1
