Question 148098: what order of operation do you use to find a solution
(x-2)/5-3/2 = (x+1)/10

Answer by checkley77(12844)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
(x-2)/5-3/2 = (x+1)/10
first you combine the fractions on the left
[2*(x-2)-3*5)]/5*2)=(x+1)/10
[2x-4-15]/10=(x+1)/10
now combine like terms
[2x-19]/10=(x+1)/10
now cancel out the denominators
2x-19=x+1
now subtract x from both sides
2x-x-19=x-x+1
now conbine the x terms
x-19=1
now add 19 to both sides
x-19+19=1+19
x=20 answer.
proof:
(20-2)/5-3/2 = (20+1)/10
18/5-3/2=21/10
(18*2-3*5)/10=21/10
(36-15)/10=21/10
21/10=21/10
