Answer by stanbon(75887)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
1/(2 - x) + 4/(x + 7) = 6/(2 - x).
--------------
Multiply thru by (2-x)(x+7) to get:
(x+7) + 4(2-x) = 6(x+7)
5(x+7) = 4(2-x)
5x+35 = 8-4x
9x = -27
x = -3
------------
You are correct.

. First get a common denominator, which is (x+7)(2-x). Then multiply the fractions in order for them to have that denominator. Your numerators should become , and . Set up the equation . Then combine like terms and get . Add 3x to both sides: . Subtract 42 from both sides: . Divide by 9: . You were right!
