Simply think of 'i' as a variable.
(2+3i) + (4-5i)
=2 + 3i + 4 - 5i
=6-2i (combine like-terms)
(4+3i)-((2+2i)
=4+3i-2-2i (distribute minus sign to terms inside parenthesis)
=2+i (combine like-terms)
(4+3i)- (2-2i)
= 4+3i-2+2i (distribute minus sign to terms inside parenthesis)
= 2+5i
