the two points are 8 units (7 to -1) apart on the x-axis and 7 units (4 to -3) apart on the y-axis
the x and y axes are perpendicular to each other,
__ so the distance between the points is like the hypotenuse of a right triangle
__ with the x-distance and y-distance as the legs
d^2=(x-distance)^2+(y-distance)^2 __ d=sqrt(8^2+7^2) __ d=sqrt(113)
