try substitution instead of elimination
subtracting 7x from second equation __ y=-7x-8
substituting __ -2x-5(-7x-8)=7 __ -2x+35x+40=7 __ 33x=-33 __ x=-1
substituting __ -2(-1)-5y=7 __ 2-5y=7 __ -5y=5 __ y=-1
