You should start by doing the distributive property. When you distribute the 7 across the (3x+4), and then distribute the 8 across the (2x+5), you will get an equation that looks like this: . All you did was the distributive propoerty. The +13 is on the end because it was on the end of the original equation.
The next step is to add like terms, which in this case is the 40+13 on the right side of the equal sign. Your equation now looks like: .
Now, you want to get all the x terms on one side, and all the numbers without x's on the other side. Move 16x over by subtracting it from both sides of the equal sign. Then, move 28 over by subtracting it from both sides of the equal sign. Your equation now looks like: .
