Question 125113: How do you know if an expression has infinitely many solutions?
Answer by checkley71(8403)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
AN EXPRESSION THAT HAS MORE UNKNOWNS THAN EQUATIONS FITS THIS CRITERIA.
EXAMPLE:
2X+3Y=8
X COULD BE=1 THEN Y=2. 2*1+3*2=8 OR 2+6=8 OR 8=8.
OR X COULD BE=2 THEN Y=4/3. 2*2+3*4/3=8 OR 4+4=8 OR 8=8.
OR X COULD BE=10 THEN Y=-4. 2*10+3*-4=8 OR 20-12=8 OR 8=8.
YOU CAN SEE HOW AN INFINITE NUMBER OF SOLUTIONS ARE POSSIBLE.
EVERY DIFFERENT X VALUE CREATES A CORRESPONDING DIFFERENT VALUE FOR Y.
