Question 1208423: Determine if the expressions are a monomial. If it is, name the variable(s) and the coefficient and give the degree of the monomial. If it is not a monomial, state why not.

A. -4x^2
Monomial
Coefficient is -4
The variable is x
The degree is 2
B. -2x^(-3)
-2x^(-3) = -1/2x^(3)
I say B is not a monomial. The exponent is a non-negative integer.
C. 5x^2•y^3
Monomial
Coefficients are 5 and 1
Variables are x and y
The degree is 3
D. -(2x^2/(y^3)
I am not sure about D. Is this a monomial? If not, why?
E. 3x^2 + 4
This is not a monomial. This is a binomial.
You say?

.
(A)   correct.

(B)   -2x^(-3) = -.   Not a monomial

In your post,  you incorrectly treated the coefficient as  -.

In reality,  the coefficient is  -2.

(C)   correct.   The coefficient is  5.

      It is not  " 5  and  1 ".

      The rest is correct.

(D)   It is not a monomial.   It is a rational function   (there is  y^3  in the denominator).

(E)   correct.
