Lois rides her bike to visit a friend. she travels 10 mph. while shes there it starts to rain
Let the friend's house be x miles away.
Time taken to reach friend's house x/10 hours
Her friend drives her home in a car traveling at 25 mph.
Time taken to drive back = x/25 hours
It takes Lois 1.5 hours longer to go to her friends than it does to return home.
Time taken to bike to friend.s house - time return by car = 1.5
x/10 - x/25 = 3/2
Multiply by LCD 50
5x-2x= 75
3x=75
x = 25 miles
how many hours did it take Lois to ride to her friends house?
time = distance / speed = 25/10 = 2.5 hourw

The ratio of the two speeds is 10:25 = 2:5. Because the distances there and back are the same, the ratio of times at the two speeds is 5:2.

Let x be the number of hours it took Lois to ride to her friend's house
Then x-1.5 is the number of hours it took her to return home

The ratio of the numbers of hours is 5:2

ANSWER: It took Lois 2.5 hours to ride to her friend's house
