Question 119060: how do you write an equation off of a graph in slope intrcept form:
With on the y-axis it hits -3 on the x-axis it hits 1.5 Answer by checkley71(8403) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Y=mX+b WHERE m=SLOPE & b=THE Y INTERCEPT.
HITTING THE Y AXIS @ -3 IS THE POINT (0,-3).
HITTING THE X AXIS @1.5 IS (1.5,0).
USING THESE TWO SETS OF POINTS WE FIND THE SLOPE (Y2-Y1)/(X2-X1)
SLOPE=(0+3)/(1.5-0)=3/1.5=2 WHICH IS THE SLOPE.
NOW WE USE ONE SET OX (X,Y) VALUES & THE SLPE TO FIND (b) THE Y INTERCEPT.
-3=0X+b
-3=b
B=-3 WHICH IS THE Y INTERCEPT.
THUS WE HAVE THE EQUATION:
Y=2X-3 (graph 300x200 pixels, x from -6 to 5, y from -5 to 5, y = 2x -3).
