4x-y=5 --> y = 4x - 5
4x+4y=-4 --> x + y = -1

Sub for y
x + (4x-5) = -1
5x = 4
x = 4/5
y = -9/5

Elimination is better for this system:
4x-y = 5

-5y = 9
