Question 1049025: Adalyn has 9 more than twice the number of skittles than Morgan has. If twice the number of skittles that Adalyn has is 2 more than 5 times the number of skittles that Morgan has, how many does each girl have?
Answer by addingup(3677) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Adalyn = x
Morgan = y
x = 2y+9 we'll use this value for x next
2x = 5y+2 substitute for x
2(2y+9) = 5y+2
4y+18 = 5y+2 subtract 4y and 2 on both sides
16 = y
or
y = 16 this is how many Morgan has. And Adalyn? Well, she has:
x = 2y+9 = 2(16)+9 = 32+9 = 41 Morgan has 41

John
