Answer by ankor@dixie-net.com(22740) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
2(y+2)+y = 19-(2y+3)
:
Multiply what's inside the brackets, think of -1 being outside the (2y+3)you have:
2y + 4 + y = 19 - 2y - 3)
:
Combine like terms on both sides:
3y + 4 = 16 - 2y
:
We want to perform algebra operations to isolate y on the left and numbers on the right.
Add 2y to both sides and you have:
3y + 2y + 4 = 16
:
Add the y's and subtract 4 from both sides:
5y = 16 - 4
:
5y = 12
:
Divide both sides by 5 and you have;
y = 12/5
:
y = 2.4
:
:
Check your solution by substituting 2.4 for y, in the original equation:
Step-by-step
2(y+2)+y = 19-(2y+3)
:
2(2.4 + 2)+ 2.4 = 19-(2(2.4)+ 3)
:
2(4.4) + 2.4 = 19 - (4.8 + 3)
:
8.8 + 2.4 = 19 - 7.8
:
11.2 = 11.2; equality reigns, our solution is correct
