Question 232744: Negative 8 in parentheses with negative 2 exponent outside parentheses, how do you solve it?
The original problem was 2 to negative 3rd power in parentheses with negative 2 power (exponent) outside parentheses, equals 2 to negative 3 power with negative 2 power in parentheses. I calculated that the first part of the equation was the negative 8 in parentheses with negative 2 exponent outside parentheses. Did I do that right? I came up with 64 but I think this is wrong. This is terrible. I'm trying to tutor pre algebra to 8th graders and look at me!

Question 233477: x^2-6x-27
_divided by_
x+3
When the teacher does it in class it looks so easy.I tried synthetic division but it does not come out right.I tried dividing -3 into x^2-6x-27 but I can not figure out how many times -3 will go into x which would actually be 1x,so I am stuck at the first step.

6) The formula for calculating the amount of money returned for an initial deposit into a bank account or CD (certificate of deposit) is given by
A is the amount of the return.
P is the principal amount initially deposited.
r is the annual interest rate (expressed as a decimal).
n is the number of compound periods in one year.
t is the number of years.
Carry all calculations to six decimals on each intermediate step, then round the final answer to the nearest cent.
Suppose you deposit $4,000 for 8 years at a rate of 7%.
a) Calculate the return (A) if the bank compounds annually (n = 1). Round your answer to the hundredth's place.

Question 236049: I'm not sure if this is the right category?? But can you please explain this to me? I think the argument is correct but I don't know how to explain the process. Thanks sooooo much!!!
Hosni gave the following argument that - (a + b) = -a + -b, for all integers a and b. If the argument is correct, supply the missing reasons. If it is incorrect, explain why not.
-(a + b) = (-1)(a + b)
= (-1)a + (-1)b
= -a + -b
