Question 7260: I am tutoring myself over the summer to go into Algebra. i am on the chapter exponents. i understand exponents and bases but i dont understand this: (xy to the 2nd power)to the 3rd power = xy · y · xy · y · xy · y = x to the 3rd power times y to the sixth power.
Why is y broken up and why does it suggest this rule: Raise each factor to the power and then use the rule of exponents for multiplication?

Question 10134: 16/the cubed root of 16
so sixteen divided by the cubed root of sixteen

Question 13196: Problem solving extending charts!
1. Find the number of full 8 hr. shifts that Maria worked last month
(1) She worked twice as many 6 hr. shifts as 8 hr. shifts.
(2) She worked a total of 280 hrs.
Then you make a chart One column is 6h shifts the other is 8 h shifts. The first row is Hrs. Per shift x Number of shifts = Total hrs. worked.
