Rule for when a factor of the numerator has the same 
base as a factor in the denominator but a different 
exponent:

1. Subtract the exponents (larger minus smaller). 
2. put the resulting exponent in the numerator or denominator, 
depending on which place the larger exponent was before.
3. eliminate the factor where the smaller exponent was located.
