I'm going to write it like this, the cube roots are like terms so we can combine
divide both sides by 3
Cube both sides
b = -8

See if that checks out on a calc; enter
4(-8^(1/3)) + 5 = -3
and
-8^(1/3) - 1 = -3; equality reigns, so a good solution
