Question 55745: We are able to convert to basic scientific notation but the confusion is coming in when an exponent is given in a number such as 300,000^2 or when asked to give the scientific notation for 800^4-400^2 Thanks!

300,000^2 = 9,0 x 10^10
----------------
800^4 - 400^2
= (8 x 10^2)^4 - (4 x 10^2)^2
= (4096 x 10^8) - (16 x 10^4)
= (4.096x 10^11) - (1.6 x 10^5)
