In 2004 the population of the US was 294.4 million.
if the population continues to grow at an annual rate of 1.05%
then the population in the year 2015 will be 294.4(1.0105)to the 11th power million.
Evaluate the expression to find the predicted population in 2015 to the nearest tenth of a million people.
---------
Population(2015) = 294.4(1.0105)^(11) = 330.2 million people
-----------
Estimate what year the population will reach 350 million people.
350 = 294.4(1.0105)^t
1.188859 = 1.0105^t
Take the log of both sides to get:
tlog1.0105 = log1.188859
t = 0.07513.../ 0.004536...
t = 16.56 years
-------
That would be in the year 2004 + 16.56 or 2021
