Question 1076664: Hello, I'm about to take the ASTB-E and have been studying some gouge. One problem that came up was
(4^-1/4 - 16^-3/9) / 2^-5/10
How do I hand jam this (without calculator) problem, or does it seem a little unrealistic for a standardized test that is timed?

Answer by Alan3354(69443)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
(4^-1/4 - 16^-3/9) / 2^-5/10
------
= (2^-1/2 - 16^-1/3) / 2^-1/2
Multiply by 2^(1/2)
= 1 - (16^-1/3)*2^(1/2)
= 1 - (2^-1/3)*8^(-1/3)*2^(1/2)
= 1 - sqrt(2)/(2^1/3)*8^(1/3)
= 1 - sqrt(2)/2(2^1/3)
