Question 1044957: I have a question on one of my problems... the question reads.. Tamara is decorating her patio with a planter in the shape of a cube like the one shown. find the volume of the planter. One side of the cube is 3w to the power of 4 how would I figure that out?
Answer by addingup(3677) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
A cube, by definition, has six equal squares. This means that all the sides measure the same.
:
In your problem, the sides are 3^4 and if you do it in your calculator you get 81 so each edge of the cube measures 81 (I use edge instead of side so as not to confuse with face. Each of the six squares of the cube is a face)
:
The formula for the volume of the cube is very simple, the name says it all: it's edge (or side if you like it better) cubed:
813
