Hi there,
Make the first piece = 'x'
Second piece = 2x
Third piece = 5x
x + 2x + 5x = 40
8x = 40
x = 40/8
x = 5
First piece = 5 inches
Second piece = 10 inches
Third piece = 25 inches.
