Question 847629: Please help me solve this equation. A step-by-step analysis would be extremely helpful as I am just learning the rules. I am particularly stumped by how to add or subtract same base exponents.

The answer is zero, but what was the process to get that? I added the exponents that had the same base and got 5^4/3 (as a fractional exponent, or cuberoot 5^4), but what do I do about adding/subtracting same base exponents, i.e., +5^-5/3 -5^1/2 -5^3/2? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
P.S. Sorry about the questionable format, but I don't know how to type in the fractional exponents. I hope the problem makes sense. It's all the same 5 base but with fractional exponents.
