You got to know the rules to do this exercise. Basically they are:
- If the exponent is negative, get the reciprocal (the multiplicative inverse, i.e. 2 and 1/2) of the base and change the exponent back to a positive one.
- If the exponent is a fraction a/b, take the bth root of the ath power of the base.
