From
3/4x - 1/2 = 1
let us add 1/2 to both sides, then multiply both sides by 4/3...we get
3/4x = 3/2 (since 1 + 1/2 = 1 1/2 = 3/2)
and
(4/3)(3/4)x = (4/3)(3/2)
x = 2
