: I am so confused by this.
Evaluate the exponential equation for three positive values of x, three negative values of x and x=0. Use the resulting ordered pairs to plot the graph. State the equation of the line asymptotic to the graph, if any.
y= -3^x
I think I would start with have y=f(x)=-3^
f(0)=-3^0=1
f(1)=-3^1=-3=1/3
f(2)=-3^2=9
f(3)=-3^3=-27=1/27
Before I go any further, am I on the right track?This question is from textbook Elementary and Intermediate Algebra

Unfortunately, you are incorrect.

f%281%29=-3%5E1=-3


f%282%29=-3%5E2=-9


f%283%29=-3%5E2=-27


I think you're confusing the negative sign out front with negative exponents.


So you basically have the points

(0,-1), (1, -3), (2, -9), (3, -27)


Do the same with negative 'x' values to get more points so you can graph y=-3%5Ex

Three positive values of x
x = 1
y = -3^1
y = -3
x = 1.5
y = -3^1.5
y = -5.2
x = 2
y = -3^2
y = -9
Three negative values of x
x = -1
y = -3^-1
y = -0.33
x = -1.5
y = -3^-1.5
y = -0.19
x = -2
y = -3^-2
y = -0.11
x = 0
y = -3^0
y = -1
