Question 1129912: I HAVE TAKEN THE ADVICE OF SOMEONE AND PRESENTED TWO PROBLEMS REGARDING SIGNS OF FRACTIONS IT WOULD BE MUCH AP2PRECIATED IF THE PROBLEMS WOULD BE GIVEN STEP BY STEP
CHEERS MIKE PROBLEM 1, 1-K^2/3K^2-6K+3
PROBLEM 2, X/X+1 + 4/1-X +X^2-5X-8/X^2-1 HOPE THIS IS CLEAR.

Answer by stanbon(75887)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
PROBLEM 1, 1-K^2/3K^2-6K+3
Factor where possible::
= [(1-K)(1+K)]/[3(K^2-6K+1)]
= [-(K-1)(K+1)]/[3(K^2-6K+1)]
---------------------------

PROBLEM 2, X/X+1 + 4/1-X +X^2-5X-8/X^[-1
= X/(X+1) - 4/(X-1) + [X^2-5x-8]/[(X-1)(X+1)]
------
The Least Common Denominator (LCM) is [(X-1)(X+1)]
= [X(X-1)]/LCM - [4(X+1)]/LCM + [X^2-5X-8]/LCM
= [X^2-X-4X-4+X^2-5X-8]/LCM
= [2X^2-10X-12]/LCM
= [2(X^2-5x-6]/LCM
= [2(X-6)(X+1)]/LCM
--------------------------
Cheers
