We all know that exponents with positive integer power mean multiplying the number by itself as many times as the power is. x^4=x*x*x*x. This section discusses more complicated exponents -- negative power and powers that are numeric fractions. Two formulas to remember:

 highlight( x^(-n) = 1/(x^n) ), and highlight( x^(m/n) = (root( n, x ))^m )
